A little girl with a Sebaceous Horn

SEBACEOUS CYST

She is a 14 year old female, hailing from Jumla; a very remote area of Nepal.

She was admitted to Bir Hospital with complaints of horny growth from her left cheek since last year. The growth has been gradually increasing in both diameter and length. She told that she had a swelling; there is no available description of the swelling but according to her history it seems to be sebaceous cyst. It was excised in a local hospital last year. Then after a month or so from that site greasy fluid begin to ooze out regularly which dried up and became hard in consistency.

On local examination the horn is 25 cm in length and the diameter is 8 cm, which is gradually tapering towards the end like a horn. The horn is directed downward from the face, it is hard in consistency and fixed at the base.

As this is a very rare condition, I have arranged for some of her photographs to be put online. If you have any difference of opinion, suggestions or enquiries please feel free to contact me.

Surgical Treatment

The horn can be excised under general anesthesia by general surgeon. At the site of excision flap grafting followed by full thickness skin grafting can be done by plastic and reconstructive surgeon.
